Unique Scoring System.

Round 1

1st Round Scoring
(Excluding all top 3 picks)

-3 POINTS

  • For any 1st round pick that did not play in the NHL. Eg: Many...

-2 POINTS

  • For a top 10 pick that had terrible numbers.
    For a top 10 pick that played less than 200 games.
    Goalies: 100 games Eg: Many...

-1 POINT

  • For a top 10 pick that underachieved. Eg: Alexander Daigle (1st overall pick).
  • For all players drafted 11th onwards that played less than 100 games.
    Goalies: 50 games. Eg: Many...

+2 POINTS

  • For a player who did very well when compared to most or all of the other 1st round picks. Eg: Saku Koivu who was a 21st pick overall in 1993 but was 3rd in points.

+2.5 POINTS

  • For a player who was one of the best picks in the first round. Eg: Michel Goulet who was a 20th overall pick in 1979 but was 2nd in goals.

+3 POINTS

  • For a player who was by far the best 1st round pick that year. Eg: Mike Bossy who was a 15th overall pick in 1977 but was the most dominant player.

Round 2+

Draft Scoring
(Non first round)

+1 POINT

  • Given for a player who has played at least 500 games (or on his way to 500) or has decent numbers under 500 games or was a consistent player with about 3 years experience.
    Goalies: 200 games Eg: Jim Watson

+1.5 POINTS

  • Given for a player who has played about 800 games or has decent/to good numbers over 500 games or was a consistent player with about 6 years experience. Eg: Johan Franzen

+2 POINTS

  • Given for a player who has played a minimum of 1000 games or had good numbers or was a pretty good player at his position. Eg: Tony McKegney
    Keith Carney
    Bruce Driver

+2.5 POINTS

  • Given for a player with very good numbers or was one of the top players at his position. Eg: Pelle Eklund
    Rod Langway
    Alexei Zhamnov

+3 POINTS

  • Given for a player with great numbers or was a one of the best players at his position. Eg: Pavel Datsyuk
    Alexander Mogilny
    Mark Recchi

+3.5 POINTS

  • Given to an elite player who has great numbers, has won individual awards or Stanley Cups. Eg: Dominik Hasek
    Mark Messier
    Nicklas Lidstrom
In order to get a proper rating, every GM's point total is divided into the total number of picks he made. NOTE: All draft picks after 2013 that still play in the North America that are not yet established are NOT evaluated.
